Wedding article by MJ Silva July 18th 2015
If you still haven’t chosen Portugal as your wedding destination, here are three main reasons that will convince you to choose this beautiful country to exchange your vows:
1. Exceptional Weather
Although the weather has been changing a little in the last few years, making the weather warmer in months when it was usually colder, Portugal is well known for its Mediterranean climate, which means warm to hot dry summers and mild to cool wet winters.
Just to give you an idea, the hottest day of 2014 was in June with a high temperature of 35°C. Cozy, don’t you think?
If you would like a summer wedding, than the hottest month of the year is usually August with average daily high temperatures of 27°C, although good weather has lasted throughout November during the last couple of years.
If you want to get married in the spring time, the warmest period is usually from late April to the middle of May. But don’t worry, because even if it rains a little bit, you know what they say: Wet wedding, blessed wedding.
However, the greatest news of all is that Portugal has around three thousand hours of sunshine a year, an average of four to six hours in the winter and ten to twelve hours in the summer, with higher values in the southeast and lower temperatures in the northwest, making Portugal a perfect destination for all year round wedding celebrations.
2. Culinary Variety
Another reason why Portugal is famous across the globe and should be the perfect country of your choice for your wedding venue, it is the delicious, mouthwatering, rich gastronomy.
Typical Portuguese cuisine is very diverse. There are more than enough cod dish recipes for each day of the year. You can also find all sorts of out-of-this world good fresh grilled fish throughout the Portuguese coast. Two popular fish recipes are grilled sardines and caldeirada, a potato-based stew that can be made from several types of fish.
Portuguese meat recipes can be made out of beef, pork, lamb, or chicken. These recipes can either be simple or richer. Typical meat dishes include cozido à portuguesa, feijoada, frango de churrasco, leitão (roasted suckling pig) and carne de porco à Alentejana.
Typical fast food Portuguese dishes include Francesinha (Frenchie) from Porto, delicious bifana (grilled pork) or prego (grilled beef) sandwiches, which are well known around the country.
3. Mouthwatering pastry
The Portuguese art of pastry originated in the several medieval Catholic monasteries spread widely across the country. With only a few ingredients - mostly almonds, flour, eggs and some liquor – monks and nuns managed to create a spectacular wide range of different pastries. These include pastéis de Belém - or pastéis de nata - originally from Lisbon and ovos moles from Aveiro, which are both luscious, finger licking, memorable examples.
Portugal has a culture of heavenly food, and throughout the country there are myriads of terrific restaurants and typical small tasquinhas, where you can sit, whilst you enjoy the blissful weather and the gorgeous landscapes hand in hand with the love of your life.
Make every moment count.
May all your dreams come true.
